Member Participation
Kindly note that by submitting your application you are requesting to join an association that was established 18 years ago to safeguard the interests of all hauliers operating in the port of Cape Town. For the association to be effective, member participation is of vital importance. Members who participate in the association will derive the most benefit from their membership.
Members of the association receive daily email advice regarding berth plans, stack opening and closing and other relevant port information. There is also a Whatsapp Group to advise port conditions and import collections.
There are various ways in which members can participate in the association’s activities:
- Members have an opportunity to voice their concerns by attending virtual meetings and raising their concerns directly with port management in a formal way, all meetings are minuted. In person meetings are on hold because of the lockdown.
- The AGM is held in May each year, this is when members are able to vote on constitutional and other operational changes that may become necessary.
- From time to time the association requests by way of email or Whatsapp that members provide feedback on issues that affect the industry. In this way the committee can identify trends that cause harm or hardship to the hauliers in general. It is vitally important for members to respond to these emails so that the committee can best protect the interests of the industry. The association needs every member to participate and contribute to make a meaningful impact.
- There are also opportunities to serve on ad-hoc committees that may be formed from time to time to address specific concerns.
- The association also liaises with depots, shipping lines and the Port Liaison Forum on a regular basis.
